Arcadia [Sep. 22nd, 2003|01:13 am]
Jesus christ, what a weekend.

I can't tell you how glad I am that I decided to brave the storm and go to Arcadia for the weekend. I met so many cool people, had so much fun. Slept in the Prelude for 3 nights ("Welcome to the Hotel Honda Prelude / Such a lovely place / Such a tiny space").

If nothing else, it was a weekend of firsts - the furthest I've ever been south (aside from a VA trip when I was an infant, which obviously doesn't count), the longest trip I've ever taken in a car (my family doesn't travel much), my first bluegrass fest, the first time I've slept in a car more than one night at a time, the first time I thought of taking up fiddle, and the first time I've been in a hurricane.

The quick version:
Left Rochester around 9 on Thursday with Jess and Chris. Only hit the hurricane for about 15 minutes - lots of wind and some rain besides that, but not nearly as bad as I expected. Got there around 4am Friday, drove around the town for an hour before we managed to find the place. It was muddy as hell. A few Grillbillies were around, but by this time it was 5:30 in the morning and they were all in bed, so we all slept in the car.

Friday was cool, except I dropped a contact. Anyone who wears soft contacts can tell you that dropping one into the mud and grass is death, so I was blind all weekend. Watched some of the show, partied all night (kinda). I got pretty tired by 3 or 4 and went to bed. I fared better on Saturday, probably because I managed to get more sleep the second night.

I was going to do a play-by-play, but there's just too much to relate. It was a blast. Chris told me about it, but I really didn't know what to expect. It was definitely way cooler than I thought it would be. I'm hoping I'll be able to go along in the spring when the festival season starts. I don't think I'd be able to do this every weekend - Chris was right when he said our parties here can't compare - but I hope I can make a few.

My camera battery died sometime Saturday night, but I managed to get almost 100 pictures, which will be online soon (once I name them). I'm exhausted and sick - 3 packs of smokes in 2 days is just a bad idea. Lucky for me, I don't have class till 2 tomorrow.

Edit:
Since I'm sure I'll be remembering more and more stuff as the day goes on, I'm going to just add them on the end here instead of making new entries.

On Thursday before we left, I bought an RIT blanket because I don't have a sleeping bag or anything. They have these full-size blankets that are made out of a heavy sweatshirt material, so they're obnoxiously soft and comfy. I was going to buy one anyway, since I needed a new blanket, so it just worked out that I got one for the weekend. And now, coupled with my t-shirt material sheets, it's just plain orgasmic. It's not as warm as a regular comforter though, but I've got a fleece I can toss on top of it.

On the way home, I saw about a half-dozen people on big hogs with their hair blowing in the wind - the helmet law repeal went into effect a couple weeks ago in PA.

Happiness [Sep. 22nd, 2003|12:47 pm]
I just woke up to a post-it on my monitor reading, "Go back to sleep. Human Factors was cancelled." And since I only have the one class today, I have the whole day free. Not that I'm going to take advantage of it and do something productive - I'm going back to bed. I feel like shit.

UML [Sep. 22nd, 2003|02:18 pm]
Are you missing a UML book? I borrowed one from Adam a few days ago, and when I was finished with the homework, I tossed it in with the rest of my books because I knew I would need it again soon. When I went to grab it again, I noticed another one just like it sitting there as well. I'm not sure where it came from - for all I know, I bought it and forgot about it. So check and see if you're missing a UML book, because I'm pretty sure I borrowed it from someone but I don't know who.

Only tools post song lyrics [Sep. 22nd, 2003|06:41 pm]
[Current Music |Brad Paisley - Celebrity]

Someday I'm gonna be famous,
Do I have talent, well, no.
These days you don't really need it,
Thanks to reality shows

Can't wait to date a supermodel,
Can't wait to sue my dad.
Can't wait to wreck a Ferrari
On my way to rehab....

Cause when you're a Celebrity
It's adios reality
You can act just like a fool
People think you're cool
Just cause your on TV.
I can throw major fits
When my latte isn't just how I like it
They say I've gone insane,
I'll blame it on the fame,
And the pressures that it goes with
Being a Celebrity

I get to cry to Barbara Walters,
When things don't go my way.
I'll get community service
No matter which law I break

I'll make the supermarket tabloids,
They'll write some awful stuff
But the more they run my name down,
The more my price goes up

Cause when you're a Celebrity,
It's adios reality.
No matter what you do,
People think you're cool,
Just cause you're on TV.
I can fall in and out of love,
Have marriages that barely last a month.
When they go down the drain
I'll blame it on fame
And say it's just so tough.
Being a Celebrity

So let's hitch up the wagons and head out west
To the land of fun in the sun
We'll be real world bachelors
Jackass Millionaires
Hey, Hey, Hollywood
Here we come!

Yeah, When you're a Celebrity
It's adios reality
No matter what you do,
People think you're cool,
Just cause you're on t.v.
...Being a Celebrity
...Yeah Celebrity!
...uh-huh

"Where's my coffee?"
