Powershot Problems
Fellow Powershot users: Help.

I re-installed Windows the other day, and I'm having trouble getting my camera working like it used to. In the past, I would plug in the camera, turn it on, and it would appear in My Computer. Opening it led to simple directory of photos. They were auto-rotated if necessary, so I just copied them all to a folder on my machine.

Now, I can't figure out how I got it to work that way. I've downloaded drivers from Canon, I've installed from the disc that came with the camera, and I've let Windows discover it all by itself. No matter how I do it, the images don't auto-rotate. I can copy them all at once using Window's image getter thingy, but I have to go through and rotate the ones that were taken portrait-style. I can open the camera in My Computer, but there's a couple directories, like 142CANON and 143CANON, and again, the images aren't properly rotated.

Obviously, there's a way to make it work the way I want it to, but I can't figure it out and I can't find anything online. Does anyone have theirs working the way I described, and do you remember how you did it?

isn't that weird, i plug my old powershot s330 into my powerbook and it just works, along with autorotation!

It works fine on my iBook, with Image Capture, but (for a variety of reasons) I keep all my photos on my desktop. If all else fails, I guess I could just use Image Capture to download from the camera to my desktop via a network-mounted drive.

why not keep them in an online gallery which is backed up regularly?

Because I have a lot of pictures I don't want made public. I put the best ones on Flickr, but there are a lot that are just plain crappy, or potentially compromising.

i have some that i reeeeeeally don't want public.. me doing things that i'd only want one other person to know about, but since i run my own gallery i feel safe putting them there, renaming the albums, and hiding the albums.

gallery v2 should do an even better job of keeping my terrible pictures safe, but that's still alphaish, so i won't go there quite yet.

As a removable disk drive? Mine shows up as a camera, but I can access it (more or less) like a disk.
